Advising Islanders to stay well this winter

25 November 2022

Public Health is providing the key actions that it recommends Islanders follow this winter to minimise the effects of seasonal viruses, including flu, and COVID-19.

As the Government’s COVID-19 de-escalation plans continue and during what is expected to be a difficult winter for many, Islanders are being asked to follow three simple steps:

  • Stay home if feeling unwell and if experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, book a free PCR test
  • Get vaccinated against flu and COVID-19
  •  Keep the air fresh by opening windows when convenient

Director of Public Health, Professor Peter Bradley, said: “We are moving to a sustained and steady approach with our COVID-19 messaging and are bringing together all recommended public health actions that Islanders are encouraged to follow to protect themselves against winter harms.

“We have seen an earlier than usual start to our flu season this year and an increase in other seasonal illnesses. A further wave of COVID-19 could also emerge in the coming months, so it is important that Islanders follow the guidance and stay home if they feel unwell.

“I encourage those Islanders who are eligible for their Autumn Booster and free Flu vaccines to book an appointment and ensure they are best protected over the winter period.

“As we indicated in September, we are progressing with plans to move past our emergency response and reduce our use of testing during the early part of 2023.”

Islanders can book their COVID-19 vaccines at gov.je/vaccine. Those eligible for a flu vaccine can receive this at the same time. Flu vaccines are also available at GPs and Pharmacies.
