£250,000 approved to support eligible Ukraine nationals

07 March 2022

The Minister for Treasury and Resources has approved funding of up to an initial £250,000 to support Ukrainian nationals who may be eligible, through family connections, for a visa to come to the Island. This will enable Ministers and officers to respond quickly when needed.

The money, to be transferred from the General Reserve, can cover such costs as visa applications, transport to Jersey, and temporary accommodation for people who are unable to live with relatives.

The Government has established a team dedicated to supporting Ukrainian nationals with links to Jersey, and their families. They are assessing and developing support services for Ukrainians who meet the visa criteria.

To date, more than a dozen individuals have been assessed as eligible for a visa.

The Minister for Treasury and Resources, Deputy Susie Pinel, said: "In addition to the £1 million contribution to Jersey Overseas Aid, alongside the Bailiff's Ukraine Appeal, we want to make sure we have money available in case it is needed to support Ukrainians who may be able to come to Jersey.

"We are committed to supporting these individuals and families during this humanitarian emergency. This funding ensures we can respond swiftly and without delay to this rapidly changing situation."
