Islanders preparing for a career in digital technologies can now study for a degree through University College Jersey (UCJ) at Highlands College.

The BSc (Hons) in Digital Technologies is designed to give students an understanding of a range of digital industries alongside opportunities to apply their knowledge through industry placements.

The course will allow students to understand some of the digital challenges facing many businesses including FinTech security, cloud computing, and web and mobile app development.

The degree – which is validated by by Plymouth University– has been designed to provide close links with industry through regular work placements, and ongoing refinement to ensure that the course reflects the latest real-world challenges.

Students who complete the degree can go on to roles in cyber security, web design and development, and cloud computing administration.

Applications are open for enrolment in September, and close on the 22 June.

Shaun Heslop, Lecturer and Co-Ordinator of HND and BSc courses, said: "Because we live and work in an increasingly digital world, we're seeing that digital skills are required across all industries.

"This is only going to increase in the coming decades, so people who can come into the workforce with a combination of practical experience and in-depth knowledge are going to be in demand.

"I'd encourage any students with a Level 5 qualification who are interested in a future in digital industries to get in contact and learn more about the course."
