Two sentenced for Class A drug importation

03 February 2022

Two men have today 3 February, been sentenced to a total of 22 years imprisonment, following the importation of Class A drugs into the island last year.

Craig Yeowart, aged 38, from Liverpool, and Darren Maidment, aged 35, also from Liverpool, were each sentenced to 11 years, at the Royal Court.

On 7 August 2021, the men arrived in Jersey from Portsmouth in a UK registered car.

Officers from the Customs and Immigration Service examined the car once it arrived in the island as part of routine work, and discovered a significant quantity of cocaine in a concealment which had been built into the car.

The total value of the drugs discovered is estimated to hold value of between £150,000 and £200,000.

Paul Le Monnier, Senior Manager, Borders, for JCIS said: "The discovery of such a sophisticated importation attempt has undoubtedly disrupted a syndicate who were targeting Jersey, to market Class A drugs. The sentences handed down by the Courts today reflect the serious nature of this crime."
