Community Costs Bonus launched for 2023

03 July 2023

The Social Security Minister, Deputy Elaine Millar, is delighted to announce the early launch of the 2023 Community Costs Bonus to continue with the Government’s commitment to support Islanders with the rising cost of living.

Last year, the Community Costs Bonus doubled from an annual payment of £258.25 to £516.50. The value of this payment will remain at £516.50 for another year, with the added benefit of it being available earlier than last year from 1 July 2023.

There is no change to the eligibility criteria, Islanders can apply for this payment for their household if:

  • One adult has lived in Jersey for at least five years
  • The combined household tax bill was less than £2,735 in 2022
  • The household is not receiving Income Support

It is easy to apply and only takes a few minutes to complete an application. This can be done by visiting gov.je/CCB. Islanders can also apply by calling 444444 or visiting Customer and Local Services at La Motte Street.

The Minister for Social Security, Deputy Elaine Millar, said: “I am committed to supporting lower-income Islanders and continuing to give them the additional help they need with the rising costs of living. The bonus is normally paid in the autumn but this year I have brought the date forward to July to help families as soon as possible.

“In 2022, the bonus was doubled to recognise the increase in the cost of living. Given the ongoing inflationary pressures, I have decided to maintain this additional support for the 2023 payment. We were able to help over 4,000 households through the 2022 payment and I hope we can repeat that this year.

"As we did previously, we will be proactively targeting Islanders and raising awareness of the 2023 payment through communications and an extensive marketing campaign to make sure that those Islanders who can benefit from this payment are aware and applying.”

Applications can be made from 1 July 2023, however the process can only be completed once all members of the household have filed their 2022 tax returns and received their tax assessment
