Jersey to host 39th British-Irish Council Summit

13 June 2023

The British-Irish Council (BIC) will hold its 39th summit in Jersey, on Friday 16th June 2023. It is the fifth time a BIC summit has been held in Jersey.

The meeting will be attended by leaders and ministers from the eight BIC member administrations: the UK and Irish Governments; the devolved administrations of the Scottish and Welsh Governments and Northern Ireland Executive; the Governments of the Isle of Man, Guernsey and the host, Jersey.

Chief Minister, Deputy Kristina Moore said: “We are delighted to be hosting the British Irish Council Summit in Jersey this week. As Chief Minister, I am very much looking forward to welcoming colleagues from across the BIC jurisdictions to the Island.

“We will be discussing a number of key policy areas which are relevant to us all, including the affordability of housing, energy efficiency in buildings, green energy such as our mission to support hydrogen power, and our future skills needs.

“The Summit also provides an excellent opportunity to demonstrate all that is best in our beautiful Island and provide the Council with an opportunity to experience Jersey’s culture, cuisine, and hospitality. I am also especially pleased that members of the Jersey Youth Parliament will be involved in the summit.

“BIC Summits have become increasingly important in recent years, and our continued engagement and discussions will help to shape a sustainable future for all our jurisdictions.”

The theme for this year’s summit is: Building for the Future: Green and Affordable with a focus on affordability of housing, energy efficiency in building, retrofitting, the skills that will be required in the future, modern methods of construction and innovation.
