Reinvigorated Rivington Fund helps 59 Islanders in 2022

11 August 2023

The 2022 review of the Rivington charitable fund shows an increase in grant beneficiaries to 59 from a total of ten over the preceding six years.

The Rivington Fund is designed to support Islanders who could not otherwise afford to travel off-Island to cultivate their interest in the arts, crafts or history. It also aims to improve applicants' quality of life through art experiences specific to individual needs and to develop artistic skills through attending international events.

The 2022 Review reveals a significant increase in engagement and awards which has been delivered by the dual approach of using community group referral alongside media promotion to raise awareness.

The annual budget of £100,000 is now administered by ArtHouse Jersey with quarterly application deadlines.

Those who think they may qualify for this kind of financial support must be Jersey residents, have an interest in the arts, crafts or history and not have travelled off-Island for leisure in the past two years. Applicants must be able to outline their trip in detail, demonstrate their passion and reasoning for the trip, propose a realistic budget and commit to sharing their journey so that their experience can be used to further promote the fund and the arts in Jersey.

The website features the stories of individuals and groups who have benefited from grants. These can be read at www.rivington.je/testimonials.

The Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture, Deputy Kirsten Morel, commented: "After many years of very few awards being granted, I am delighted that the relaunch of the Fund has proven successful with many more Islanders given the opportunity to further their love of the arts, crafts or history through travel.

"This fund aims to support those who would not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy such experiences and I would like to thank the trustees and administrators ArtHouse Jersey for ensuring that the wishes of benefactor William Richard-Pickering are being fully realised."
