St John’s School review report published

15 March 2023

St John’s School has been reviewed as part of the Jersey Schools Review Framework.

The Jersey Schools Review Framework was piloted across Government schools from 2016 – 2019. After a pause during COVID, review visits have re-started this academic year.

St John’s School was reviewed in February, over the course of three days. The review team was made up of four reviewers, led by an experienced off-Island reviewer. During the visit, the review team observed 19 lessons, spoke with members of the school leadership, met with groups of pupils, and sampled work from across the curriculum.

School reviews take place every three years, and each review considers four main areas: the school environment; the effectiveness of the school’s leadership; the behaviour and personal development of pupils, and the standards of teaching, learning and achievement.

Following each review, the school, parents and CYPES receive a short report of the findings, which will be available on the Jersey Schools Review Framework webpage. Parents can also visit the page to watch videos and read factsheets in English, Polish and Portuguese and find out more about the process.

Headteacher of St John’s School, Jamie Hazely, said: “As a headteacher leading the school through the review process for the first time, I’d like to thank the school community for their support, and the reviewers for their professionalism.

“I am pleased that the review team identified our focus on consistent teaching practice, and our emphasis on developing supportive relationships with pupils. I welcome the recommendations in this review, and will be working together with CYPES to respond to them.”

The full report is available online.
