Storm Ciarán update: Monday 6 November

06 November 2023

Significant progress has been made in the clean-up operation following Storm Ciarán.

All main Government roads are now accessible and can be viewed on this interactive map.

People are still advised to travel with care, using main routes where possible, as some parish routes remain impassable or will only be passable in one direction. Parish officials continue to clear parish roads, with progress being communicated on their social media accounts.

Islanders are advised to leave more time for journeys and be conscious of road conditions, as congestion and delays will continue in some areas.

Displaced residents

Significant progress has also been made in restoring electricity to properties throughout the Island, with many Islanders who had been displaced able to return home today. JEC has now reconnected more than 700 homes and businesses, with fewer than 100 customers without power.

If you are without power, vulnerable, and require accommodation due to electricity outages, please call: 01534 505422, open on Monday between 9am-5pm. Or contact JEC's emergency line on 01534 505050.

Government continues to provide care and support services to Islanders who are unable to return home due to storm damage to properties.

Schools

All schools are open with the exception of Samarès School, Hautlieu School, and Victoria College. The three schools that are closed will contact parents directly regarding student plans and reopening.

As storm repairs continue to take place at Hautlieu School today, the school is postponing their planned 16-plus options evening from this Tuesday (7 November) to Tuesday 28 November at 6.30pm.

Food

Fresh food and deliveries continue to arrive on Island and be distributed, although there may be some variation in stores.

Les Quennevais indoor sports facilities

Following checks of the roof structure by Jersey Property Holdings and relevant contractors this afternoon, Les Quennevais indoor sports facilities will reopen tomorrow for normal activities.

Planning and regulation assistance

The regulation team is available to offer support and has increased the number of officers available. It has also extended the operating hours of the Planning and Building Duty service to 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Planning and building information following Storm Ciaran has been added to: Storm Ciarán: advice and updates (gov.je)

Maison Le Pape temporarily closed

Maison Le Pape is temporarily closed due to storm-related damage to the roof. Staff are contacting clients with appointments to change venues or clinic locations.
