Actively seeking work figures released

11 October 2023

Today, Statistics Jersey have released the latest Actively Seeking Work (ASW) figures. There are currently 700 jobseekers registered as actively seeking work across the Island.

Over the past few years, there has been a significant increase in ASW numbers in September. This is due to parents who are now registered as jobseekers being able to increase their working hours as their youngest child has turned four and started nursery, or their youngest child is starting primary or secondary education.

Despite recent challenges faced by businesses, the job market in Jersey remains robust, offering numerous opportunities across various sectors. The Back to Work team is available to support qualified Islanders looking for work by providing:

  • Personalised guidance and coaching from trained employment advisors
  • Active job matching facilitated by the Back to Work recruitment team
  • Access to employment incentives and paid training programs
  • Participation in the Foundations program, a supported work initiative focused on enhancing skills and employability through community projects
  • Additionally, the Back to Work team offers a wide range of training courses to develop both personal and work-related skills.

Deputy Malcolm Ferey, Assistant Minister for Social Security said: "Through the continued good work from the Back to Work team the Actively Seeking Work numbers remain at a very low level. I would also encourage businesses who can offer work experience opportunities to jobseekers to contact the Back to Work team. There are financial incentives available to employers when vacancies are filled. We acknowledge that some businesses face extraordinary challenges at this time, and we welcome the opportunity to engage with them."
