Family app celebrates first anniversary

05 April 2023

All families with young children are invited to a free family event to celebrate the first anniversary of the 50 Things to Do Before You’re 5 app. The event will take place on the 15 April between 10am and 12.30pm at Millbrook Park.

The 50 Things app is a collaboration between the Government of Jersey and the Best Start Partnership. It was launched last year to support children and families after the COVID-19 pandemic.

It gives families suggestions for a wide range of low-cost and no-cost activities, including local links, top tips, and signposting to island events. Since its launch, the app has been downloaded 1500 times by Islanders.

At the event on 15 April, early years representatives will be offering free stalls and activities taken from the app. These will include bubble blowing, sing and sign, sensory play, stories and poems, den building, water play, face painting, bug hunting, forest school activities, and live theatre and music.

Jersey Water and Sandpiper will support the event by providing free fruit and water, and families are invited to bring a picnic to the event. In addition, there will be 300 free goodie bags available on the day.

Assistant Minister for Children and Education, Connétable Richard Vibert, said: “It’s great news that 1500 Islanders have downloaded the app and now have access to information, tips and activities that they can use to support their child’s development.

“A child’s early years are the most important for their development. The app has been designed to support all families by showing that they can support their child’s development in lots of low-cost or no-cost ways.”
