11 January 2024

The Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Karen Wilson, and Health and Community Services (HCS) has praised two senior leaders in Health for their work.

Chris Bown, who became Interim Chief Officer for HCS on 1 April 2023, will continue in his role until April 2025. Mr Bown’s extended appointment provides stability to the senior leadership team at Health and Community Services.

Deputy Wilson, said: “I am delighted Chris Bown will continue in the role until April 2025. He has provided stability to the Health and Community Services department and will continue to deliver the provision of high quality, safe, patient-centred care to Islanders.”

The Minister also thanked Professor Hugo Mascie-Taylor for his hard work and dedication to the HCS Advisory Board, having reached the end of his contract on 31 December 2023. Professor Mascie-Taylor was appointed by the Minister for a fixed term period of 12- months in November 2022. This was recently extended to the end of 2023.

Professor-Mascie Taylor was appointed to support the establishment of a new Advisory Board, which oversees the HCS department and has focused on culture, value, and behaviours of colleagues and patients, whilst striving to ensure inclusivity and collaboration.

Deputy Wilson, said: “Throughout his tenure, Professor Mascie-Taylor has worked tirelessly to ensure there are clear expectations about HCS. We thank him for his time and hard work and the specific expertise he brought to the department. The Board will now ensure the key structures, processes and cultures continue to be developed and put in place”.

Work continues to find his successor.

The next HCS Advisory Board meeting will take place on 25 January 2024 at 9.30am.
