Social media and networking

Steps for staying safe on social media:

  • be careful who you accept as friends or contacts, especially if you get a request from people you don’t know personally
  • don’t be pressured into doing anything you’re not comfortable with, or that you know is wrong. Sending intimate images and being persuaded into extremist behaviour are just two examples
  • don’t share private information about yourself or your family. Publishing any identifying information could put you at risk of online crimes and abuse
  • review your privacy settings and friend / contact lists regularly

Watch this quick two minute video to find out why you need to be careful with what personal details you share online and how oversharing can put you at risk of identity fraud.

What goes online stays online!

Remember that once you’ve shared something online, it’s out there for others to see. Don’t say anything or publish pictures that might offend or embarrass you or someone else.

Watch this two minute video to see how what you post could come back to haunt you and ruin your future.
