Next Steps

Next Steps is a free programme for young people aged 12 to 25.​

Anyone can complete this form including the young person, parents, teachers or other professionals. 

Next Steps can give you access to:

  • dedicated mentors
  • careers and employment advice
  • a number of short to long term personal development programmes

This will help you achieve your personal education and career goals.

The programme combines government support services and other organisations. It’s co-ordinated by Skills Jersey in partnership with:

  • Jersey Youth Service
  • Highlands College
  • Inclusion
  • Back to Work
  • CAMHs
  • Leaving Care Team
  • third sector partners

Trident work experience

All Jersey secondary school students participate in the Trident work experience scheme during Year 10 or 11. It provides a unique opportunity to experience working life while still at school.

IoD Future Leaders Scheme

The IoD Future Leaders Scheme is a work experience scheme sponsored by KPMG in the Channel Islands, which allows Year 12 Sixth Form students to spend one week ‘shadowing’ a Director or Senior Manager working across a number of sectors in the Island.

The deadline for applications is end January. Invitations to interview are to be sent out by the beginning of February with interviews to be held end February.

Insight days

Information days are free to attend and aimed at students in year 12 to 13 with any additional spaces allocated to adults not in education.
