About the Parental Grant
The Parental Grant is a single (tax free) payment of £797.79 to help with the general cost of having a baby. It's usually paid directly into your bank account.
If you have multiple births or adopt twins, triplets or more, you'll get this amount for each child.
The Parental Grant is one of two parental benefits that we offer. The other is Parental Allowance.

Your entitlement to Parental Grant
Your entitlement for a Parental Grant is based on your Social Security contributions. If you’ve worked and contributed at some stage in your working life, you’re likely to qualify.
If you don’t have enough contributions we’ll contact you.
How to claim the Parental Grant
You can claim your Parental Grant by completing an online form.
Your midwife or social worker will fill in the first part of the online form with the relavent details. Your midwife or social worker will then email you a link to the form and you are required to fill in the rest of it.
This should be done shortly after your 28 week midwife appointment or date of intention to adopt is set.
When you can claim the Parental Grant
You can claim the grant any time between 13 weeks before your baby is due to be born or date of intention to adopt is set, and six months after your baby is born or or date of intention to adopt is set.
Parental Grant and other benefits
A Parental Grant does not affect any other Social Security contributory benefits or Income Support you receive.
