Apply to correct an error in a registration document

If a mistake was made in any registration, the law requires that it is corrected.

If you wish to apply to correct a registration, you need to provide:

  • a signed and dated letter explaining the circumstances of the error
  • your full contact details
  • photo ID
  • the original copy of the certificate that needs to be corrected
  • any documents which support your correction

Circumstances when a registration can be corrected are restricted by law. The Superintendent Registrar will provide advice in relation to any application to correct a registration.

You cannot apply for a correction to show new information if circumstances change after registration.

After the correction has been made, a note will be added in the margin of the register explaining what the correct information is and when the correction was made.

It can take up to 6 weeks for a correction to be made.

A replacement certificate costs £32.31.
