Request

How many 999 calls have gone unanswered in Jersey?

I would like to see a breakdown of the stats over the last 6 years from 2010.

I would also like to know how long the callers waited to get through or stayed on hold to the police.

Response

999 calls to the emergency services are received and answered by Jersey Telecom.

The caller is asked which service they require and the call is routed to the appropriate emergency service. Those calls for the police are routed to Police headquarters.

When a 999 call is received in the States of Jersey Police control room, a distinctive audible alarm sounds, the volume of which is at a level that it is impossible to miss. The control room is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 999 calls are always answered immediately, as a priority.

The States of Jersey Police have no record of any 999 call being missed or left unanswered. 999 callers are not put on hold.
