A
What is the original evidence the government has to prove that Sars-Cov2 exists and that it causes disease.
B
How can you suddenly find a mutant strain of the virus that has not been isolated and been shown to exist.
Response
A
The WHO, CDC, ECDC, PHE and other internationally recognised health authorities are all in agreement with the scientific evidence that COVID-19 is the disease caused by a new coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. COVID-19 was declared a pandemic by the WHO in March 2020. The Government of Jersey is informed by the global evidence base.
B
SARS-CoV-2 is a new strain of coronavirus that has not been previously identified in humans. Viruses constantly change through mutation, and new variants of a virus are expected to occur over time. Sometimes new variants emerge and disappear. Other times, new variants emerge and persist. Multiple variants of the virus that causes COVID-19 have been documented globally during this pandemic and will likely continue to emerge.
