Cases of Myocarditis from 2017 to-date (FOI)

Cases of Myocarditis from 2017 to-date (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by Government of Jersey and published on 24 October 2022.
Prepared internally, no external costs.

Request

Please confirm the number of cases presenting within the hospital system as "Myocarditis" or similar heart disease for each year since 2017 to date, broken down into age group categories 0-5, 5-12, 12-16, 16-18, 18-25, 25-40, 40-65, 65-80, and broken down into male and female.

Response

Clinical Coding of a patient's admission is carried out after discharge from hospital and is not available through to current date. Attendances at hospital that do not result in admission are not subject to Clinical Coding.

Data for admissions in which a patient was diagnosed with Myocarditis for the period 2018 – 2021 has been provided in response to a recent Freedom of Information (FOI) request, published in September 2022. A further FOI response relating to Myocarditis and Pericarditis has been published in October 2022. Both responses are available on www.gov.je

As this information is accessible by other means, Article 23 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.

Sudden deaths and hospital admissions FOI (gov.je)

Myocarditis and Pericarditis cases since 2020 FOI (gov.je)

The data provided below represents all cases where Myocarditis was confirmed at presentation or in the course of an admission for 2017, irrespective of the reason for attendance or main condition treated.

Data is derived from reporting by discharge date. As such, patients who were admitted prior to 1st January 2017 but discharged after this date will be included. For the same reason, patients admitted prior to 31st December 2017 but discharged after this date will not be included in the numbers.

As numbers are small, disclosure control has been applied to protect the privacy of individuals and numbers fewer than five are represented as '<5'. Due to small numbers for all years in scope, Health and Community Services are unable to provide a further breakdown of the figures by age or gender. Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied to protect the privacy of individuals.
