Advance to Work trainees organise charity car wash

15 May 2012

The event has been organised by a fundraising committee of Advance to Work trainees, who have been involved in all aspects of the set up, taking on roles as the group chairman, accountant and marketing and design co-ordinator with assistance from their mentors. The committee hope to hold more events throughout 2012 in aid of Help a Jersey Child.

Advance to Work Mentor Lee Madden said: “Our purpose is to help young people improve the skills and confidence that will help them in the workplace and there are many aspects of voluntary work and fundraising activity which contribute to that.”

“The main aim of the car wash is obviously to raise money for Help a Jersey Child but it has also been a worthwhile experience for the trainees who have worked so hard to put the event together,” said Mr Madden.

Advance to Work trainee Alice Potigny said: "We have learnt basic and advanced skills while organising this event that will help us in the future towards finding work. I think the main things we have learned are good teamwork and communication skills.” Alice said that Help a Jersey Child was chosen as the charity of the year by a majority vote among the trainees.

Alice was joined on the trainees’ committee by Leah West who is dealing with finances, Peter Le Vannais and India Raffray have worked on art and design and Jack Findlay, who is responsible for marketing and PR.

The car wash is being held between 11am and 3pm and all are welcome. The price of a car wash will depend on the size of the vehicle and will start at £3.50 up to a maximum of £8.50.
