Job Club helps 1,000 Islanders

15 April 2014

Job Club – the centre which helps people who are registered as actively seeking work in their search for employment – has helped more than 1,000 Islanders in its first full year.

Since Job Club was set up at 76 Colomberie, 1153 Islanders have got free computer access, telephone, printing and postage, and help and advice on looking for work.

Tor Mitchell-Stirrup, Job Club Advisor said that the centre also took the isolation out of job seeking.

“Job Club is a place for independent job searching, but in an encouraging and supportive office environment, and it can give a real boost to someone’s confidence,” she said. “It can help someone who has only looked for work from their home, to build a network for support and job seeking.”

Job Club sessions help jobseekers

At the centre, which is a Back to Work initiative, up to ten jobseekers at a time have two-hour sessions during which they hone their CV, apply for jobs, and prepare for interviews.

Ms Mitchell-Stirrup said “Many jobseekers find their appointments productive and focused, and so feel that the sessions are very rewarding and helping their progress towards paid employment. In the coming year, I hope that we will see more jobseekers pass through Job Club and on into work.”

Registered jobseekers can email Job Club, or call on +44 (0) 1534 447544
