New headteacher at Janvrin School

30 September 2011

Iain George, the current head teacher at Springfield School, will be moving to Janvrin School in January 2012 to take over from John Du Feu, who is retiring after a decade in the post.

Mr George already knows Janvrin well, having previously worked there for 10 years, 5 of them as deputy head to Mr Du Feu.

Mr George, who has been head at Springfield for 7 years, praised his current team for their support. “It will be extremely difficult to leave the wonderful staff and school community here but I am very flattered to be offered this position and am looking forward to leading Janvrin.”

Mr Du Feu was born in Jersey and started his 35-year teaching career in Dorset. He moved back to the Island in 1982 to teach at Grouville School and then became deputy head at St Martin’s.  In 1990 he worked at Janvrin for the first time in the role of deputy head. 6 years later he took up his first headship at the new Springfield school. In 2002, he returned to Janvrin as its head teacher.

Mr Du Feu said “I will miss the children, their smiling faces and enthusiasm will provide me with me so many happy memories. I will also miss the great camaraderie of the people I have worked with over the years. It has been a fabulous career. I have been very, very fortunate in all my time as a head teacher to have been surrounded by fantastic people, professionals of the highest quality who all want the best for children.”

Director of Education Mario Lundy said “I would like to thank John Du Feu for his excellent service in Jersey schools over a long period of time. He has made a considerable contribution to the Island’s education service.”

He added “Iain George has been an outstanding teacher at Springfield and although I know the parents will miss him I hope they will join me in extending my best wishes for his new role at a larger school. I am confident he will be an excellent successor to Mr Du Feu because he already knows the school and the catchment area so well.”
