Islands' leaders meet today

16 May 2012

Jersey's Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst, and Assistant Chief Minister, Senator Paul Routier, will travel to Guernsey today (17 May 2012) to meet the Island’s newly elected Chief Minister, Deputy Peter Harwood, and Deputy Chief Minister, Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq.

It will be the first meeting between the Islands’ leaders, and discussions are expected to focus on matters of common interest, joint working and the continuing cooperation between Jersey and Guernsey. Notable examples of recent joint initiatives include the Channel Islands Brussels Office, established in May 2011, and appointments in the areas of regulation, aviation and data protection.

Senator Gorst commented “I look forward to congratulating Deputy Harwood in person and discussing with him the ways in which our 2 Islands can continue to work in partnership.

"The interests of Jersey and Guernsey are broadly aligned, which allows us to work well together in a number of areas. We shall continue to look for opportunities for cooperation and for the delivery of common services, to the benefit of both Islands.”
