New zebra crossing at Gorey

31 January 2019

Zebra crossing at Gorey

The Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Kevin Lewis, has signed a ministerial decision for a new zebra crossing on Gorey Coast Road (La Route de la Cote) by the Welcome Slipway.

It will provide a safer route for those walking between Gorey Village and the bus stop, coastal footpath, and beach.

A consultation took place in June last year, with the majority of respondents supporting the scheme. Concerns raised about the visual impact of the crossing led to the design being adapted to limit its environmental impact, and to minimise the amount of light from the beacons shining through neighbours’ windows.

Work has already started to improve the pavements and install equipment. The crossing itself will be installed later in the spring once the road has been resurfaced.
