Cliff path safety

Top tips for enjoying a safe cliff path walk

If you're going for a cliff path walk, make sure you consider the following:

  • mobile phones may not work, so tell someone where you're going and what time you'll be back
  • keep to the path and stay away from cliff edges
  • avoid unmade paths leading to beaches as they can be dangerous
  • remember that some cliffs overhang or are unstable
  • wear suitable clothes and shoes and be ready for changes in the weather
  • turn back if you're finding the walk too difficult
  • children and dogs may not recognise dangers. Keep them under close control at all times
