Hearing aids and tests

Hearing tests

Your GP must refer you into our service for a formal assessment. Contact us directly to make an appointment for a shorter hearing screening test. We no longer run a drop in hearing screening service.

Hearing loss

If you have a large, sudden drop in your level of hearing, which is not due to wax, contact us immediately.

Hearing screening tests for children and young people (8 months to 18 years)

Paediatric tests are by appointment at the General Hospital. We have a waiting list and prioritise requests based upon need.

New-born hearing screening

New-born hearing screening is usually performed on the Maternity Unit. Babies may require a follow up appointment which will take place at the Enid Quenault Health and Wellbeing Centre. These tests are normally performed in the first 4 weeks of life.

Hearing aids

This service is by appointment only. We offer appointments at the General Hospital and at Enid Quenault Health and Wellbeing Centre (previously Les Quennevais school).

We add new cases to the waiting list and prioritise requests based on need.

Private hearing aids

The Audiologists offer a private hearing aid service at the General Hospital.

This gives you a wider selection of models including:

  • completely in the canal (CIC)
  • in the ear (ITE)
  • receiver in the canal (RIC)
  • traditional behind the ear models
We only charge the cost of devices from the manufacturer plus appointment fees to cover time, equipment and room use. This keeps prices low for everyone. Appointment costs are non returnable. An information appointment is free. You only pay for the hearing aids if you decide to keep them. Warranty periods depend upon the manufacturer.
