Car parking prices to increase

27 January 2015

The cost of parking will increase in line with inflation on 1 February 2015.

The Minister for Transport and Technical Services, Deputy Eddie Noel, has approved an increase in parking charges based on the retail price index for last September of 1.8%. This means that a single unit paycard will increase from the current price of 74p to a new price of 76p.

The income from the Car Park Trading Fund pays for the repair, maintenance and rebuilding of car parks, as well as the monitoring of car parking regulation. This fund pays for the six multi-storey car parks in St Helier as well as  81 other car parks across the Island, most of which provide free parking for at least half of the year.

Deputy Noel said “I realise that a price increase is never welcome but it is important that income keeps pace with inflation to maintain enough money to keep our car parks up to a reasonable standard. This is why we make an annual increase.”
