New head teacher for St Luke's School

10 December 2015

A popular primary school on the outskirts of St Helier is to have a new head teacher from Easter 2016. Adam Turner takes up the post at St Luke’s School from the start of the summer term.

He succeeds Caryn Stone who has been St Luke’s head teacher for ten years and will be retiring at the end of the Spring term.

Mr Turner is currently the deputy head at La Moye School. He took up his first teaching post in the Island in 1999 at St Martin’s School after training in Liverpool. He then moved to St James School to become the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 manager and has also taught at Les Squez School. He later joined La Moye primary school, becoming deputy head there in 2012.

Mr Turner was born in Jersey and went to school at Grouville Primary and D’Hautree Secondary School.

Partnership with community and parish

He said “I am delighted and privileged to have been appointed as the new head teacher of St Luke’s School and aim to ensure our children are happy, successful and achieve the very best outcomes. My approach is to place the children at heart of every decision and to make learning irresistible. I look forward to getting to know the staff, children and parents and hope to work in close partnership with the community and the parish.

“I've been fortunate to work with a wonderful team at La Moye and I would especially like to thank head teacher Jacqueline Bell-Cook, who has provided the guidance, support and amazing opportunities that have enabled me to develop as a school leader.”

Assistant Director and head of Standards and Achievement, Seán O’Regan, said “Congratulations to Mr Turner. He has gained experience at all levels in a range of Jersey schools and brings great professionalism and enthusiasm to St Luke’s.”

ESC Minister Deputy Rod Bryans said “I would like to say a very big thank you to Caryn Stone for leading St Luke’s and for her contribution to education in Jersey over the course of her career. St Luke’s is a friendly, welcoming school with a clear vision that learning should be fun and memorable for the children there. I wish Mr Turner every success in his new role.”
