Chance to join Tracker apprenticeship courses

​The second group of Hospitality Management apprentices start their Level 3 City & Guilds ‘Supervision and Leadership’ qualification in September. This apprenticeship was created by Trackers, in collaboration with Highlands College and the Jersey Hospitality Association, in response to an industry call for greater investment in the sector.

This year Trackers is offering an extra four spaces to committed and motivated professionals who work in a supervisory role and would like to gain a professional qualification with a recognised, industry-wide, respected awarding body. 

This apprenticeship scheme has been running for a year and the industry has noted its benefit to businesses. The Financial Director at the Savoy Hotel, Roberto Lora, said: “The Trackers Apprentice Programme provides promising staff members with formal qualifications and raises standards in the industry. It gives something back to our loyal employees and develops the knowledge they need in their day to day work.

“We do have to release our staff for the training, but we feel that this is a sacrifice worth making. The feedback we've had from participants has been extremely positive, and we value the interaction senior management has had with the Trackers team on the progress of each individual. The Savoy Jersey was so impressed by this program we decided to submit four candidates for it, and we’re glad we did.”

The Duty Manager at The Tenby, Will Hetherington, said: “I’ve really enjoyed learning with other professionals from different areas of the industry. It’s a great opportunity to learn from each other, and as much of the work is through assessment in the workplace I have been supported to develop my people management skills.

“My biggest accomplishment has been to feel much more comfortable in this role. The learning includes practical application of theories in the workplace, and as this includes reflection on your practice, it supports the development of real life work skills.”

The Manager of Bean Around the World and Big Maggy’s, Anna Marciszewska, said: “I feel the course has helped me to grow and I am more motivated to try to develop my staff and to raise standards. I would never have been able to afford the course so Trackers funding has been very important.  I have found the support of my mentor helpful and we have a good relationship.”

Trackers is asking businesses to identify potential candidates who might like to apply for the final four spaces on this programme. All successful applicants are fully funded and are allocated an independent mentor from Trackers, Skills Jersey, to support them for the two-year course.  Students who complete the course successfully will have the opportunity to progress to Level 4.

Requirements for prospective candidates:

  • five years' residency
  • level 2/Grade C in Maths and English
  • minimum of six months' experience in Hospitality
  • a commitment/the ability to attend day release
