Jersey achieves high A-level results

15 August 2019

Students celebrating their A-level resultsStudents in Jersey have maintained the high standards achieved last year, with our young people achieving a higher pass rate than those in England.

The overall pass rate for Jersey’s A-level results is 98.8 per cent, which is in line with 2018, and above the 97.5 per cent pass rate for England.

In 2019, 59.5 per cent of entries resulted in grades A*, A or B, similar to results in 2018. Grades at A* and A accounted for 29.6 per cent of all results compared to 25.2 per cent in England.

This year a total of 480 Jersey pupils were entered for 1,298 A-level examinations.

In-depth analysis of all sixth-form qualifications will follow to show like-for-like comparisons to average results for England.

Education Minister Senator Tracey Vallois said: "I would like to offer my congratulations to the students: you did your best, you made an effort and, whatever the results, you are valued. Well done for all your hard work and perseverance. To all the teachers, parents, carers and families, I would like to offer my thanks for all the support you give our young people."

Group Director of Education, Seán O’Regan, said: "This is an excellent result for the students and their teachers, families and schools. My thanks and congratulations must go to you all as you celebrate each individual success and the wide variety of destinations to which these qualifications have opened doors."

Students going on to higher education should now contact their universities as soon as possible to confirm places. Students who did not achieve the grades they were expecting, either higher or lower, should contact the careers teacher at their school or college, or the Skills Jersey Careers Advice and Guidance Team, which is open Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 5.00pm on +44 (0)1534 449440.
