Geological sites of special interest

Why we list geological sites

It's important to list geological sites to provide legal recognition of a place’s significance to Jersey’s geological profile.

This is to make sure the essential geological quality of the place is protected through the planning system and can be enjoyed by future generations.

Geological sites of special interest

A sites unique geological qualities may contribute to it being listed as sites of special interest.

The Minister for the Environment has set out the criteria that are used to decide whether places are of special geological interest.
