Statement of significance
The parish water pump in Francis Street is the last surviving example of many that were placed in various parts of the town in the 19th century to provide a public water supply. One of a collection of island-wide historic roadside structures designed for the provision of public water supply, which together make a considerable contribution to the island's distinctive character and represent a tangible legacy of its history and culture.

External Description
The pump was fed from a well sunk in 1836 (the work having been authorised by a parish assembly in 1835). It still sits above the well and has a cast-iron and sheet metal housing in the form of a tall pedestal, square on plan and slightly tapered, with a moulded base and cornice with a pyramidal cap. On its north side is a waterspout, under which sits the original cast iron trough. On its west side is a large curved pump handle.
