Free early learning for your child

When your child can get free early learning hours

Your child can get free States-funded nursery education in the school year that they turn four years old.

You must get a place with a nursery which is a registered Nursery Education Fund (NEF) provider, or with a States primary school nursery.

How many free early learning hours you can get

Your child can get up to 20 hours’ free education each week, for 38 weeks, during school term-time only.

If your child is eligible for free early learning, they can start nursery at the beginning of the school year (September).

Where you can get a free early learning place

You can apply for a free place at a States primary school nursery, or in a NEF-registered nursery in the private or voluntary sector.

Different early learning providers offer different attendance options, like mornings only, school hours or full days. You can find out more on the ‘Places that provide free early learning' page.

You can find a full list of NEF-registered nurseries on the Jersey Child Care Trust website.
