Support for children with anxiety who feel unable to attend school

About La Passerelle Team

We are a small, short-stay, nurturing support team for young people in Key Stages 3 and 4 (secondary school age) who feel unable to attend their mainstream school because of heightened levels of anxiety.

Typically, our students internalise their anxiety, finding it difficult to attend / engage in life at their current school, even though they really would like to be there.

La Passerelle supports individuals to enhance their personal well-being, get back on track, improve their attendance and continue their learning, eventually returning to their current school.

We always maintain links with the student’s current school and have a variety of professional partners that help us develop support packages. Our key aim is to try to provide the student with the tools needed to return to their mainstream school and access education.

How La Passerelle Team supports young people with anxiety

La Passerelle offers a small, caring learning environment and provides opportunities for therapeutic support such as mindfulness and exercise for up to 15 students. The curriculum offered will focus on core academic subjects supplied by the host school, and social and therapeutic skills offered by an in-house team and professional partners.

The curriculum will be delivered through small group work and one to one sessions based on personalised plans, with a nurture group philosophy and holistic focus. We hope to support individuals, enhance their well-being, improve their attendance and continue their learning, before slowly reintegrating the student back to their current school.

We adopt a systemic approach, supporting the individual, family, and school as we know that progress is made when everyone around the student feels supported. With this in mind we work closely with family members, working side by side in meetings and reviews. We can also support you with  parenting programmes, other workshops including mindfulness and compassion sessions, and more.

How to access the La Passerelle Team

For further information email the La Passerelle Team or call our telephone consultation line, open Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm (term-time only), on +44 (0) 7797 822205.

You can also contact the Children and Families Hub.

Any student, parent or carer considering whether our team offers the right support can also talk to a member of staff at their school or a professional already offering support.
