Electric vehicles and charging

Eco Friendly parking permits

The existing Eco Friendly parking permit scheme run by Infrastructure and Environment has been renewed and will now expire 31 December 2024.

The scheme is now applicable for:

  • electric Vehicles (EVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) with carbon emissions of less than 50g CO2 per kilometre
  • vehicles registered to individuals, those registered to a company cannot apply

As an incentive, newly registered vehicles that are EV or PHEV get free parking in all States of Jersey car parks for 12 months from the vehicle's initial registration.

After the first 12 months, where applicable, parking will be half price until 31 December 2024.

Your local dealer will be able to tell you whether your vehicle is eligible, or you can check it online. Many manufacturers also indicate which band level of emissions their vehicles fall into using labels that are very similar to those found on electrical goods.

Eco Friendly Parking Permit guidance notes

Eco Friendly parking permit charge

The permit is issued free of charge, after filling out the application form, from the Parking Control Office at Sand Street. Once you have your permit you are able to purchase half price paycards and season tickets.

These can be purchased from the Parking Control Office at Sand Street.

How to use your Eco Friendly parking permit

The parking permit must be clearly displayed on your windscreen whenever you use half-price paycards or season tickets.

The paycards and season tickets should be clearly displayed as well. They have a green stamp on them so they can only be used in vehicles with a valid Eco Friendly permit.

You can use your reduced price paycards and season tickets in long and short stay car parks, and on-street parking. There is no difference in the parking regulations for Eco Friendly parking permit holders (the maximum permitted periods in the short stay car parks remain the same). You must still display the correct amount of paycards for your length of stay.

The permits are also recognised at Sand Street Car Park, which has an automatic number plate recognition payment system.

The permits are also recognised by the PayByPhone app, you will be charged half price for your parking if you use it.

Free parking concession

Vehicles which qualify for the free parking concession will be issued a permit that must be displayed at all times when parked and a parking disc (yellow time clock) used to indicate their arrival time.

Maximum stay periods apply.

In Sand Street Car Park, vehicles which qualify for the free parking will be restricted to the maximum three hour stay at any one time. Any vehicle exceeding the three hour stay will be issued an excess charge notice.
