Turn It Off: energy saving campaign

How to take part in Turn It Off

This is a really easy campaign to get involved with: just turn off any appliances or lights that aren't being used.

This includes appliances that are left on stand-by, such as:

  • chargers
  • TVs
  • computer monitors
  • tablets
  • other portable devices
  • photocopiers

The Turn It Off campaign saves energy and it will save you money. Start today and see how much money you can save.

Electrical equipment fires

Jersey Fire and Rescue Service support the Turn It Off campaign. Faulty electrics or appliances have caused over 32% of fires in homes in Jersey. The safest way to use electrical devices is not leave them on or charging for long periods of time. Turn off electrical equipment when it is not in use, when you leave your home and when you go to bed.

Turn if off energy check

To reduce the amount of energy being wasted it would be useful to carry out an energy check. Walk around your place of work at the end of the day and see what's been left on and what's been turned off. Changing people's behaviour is about positive reinforcement and praising people who do the right thing. You could even leave a note or a small token gift for people who've turned off.

Carry out checks as often as you like. It's always worth doing this if your place of work is going to be closed. Keep a chart so you can record improvements.
