About the Help2Quit service

  • is a confidential and friendly service
  • supplies free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT)
  • is provided by 22 local pharmacies across the island but also offers a specialist service for people needing more intensive support

Help2Quit is delivered on behalf of the Government of Jersey and Health and Community Services Department.

Your Help2Quit support programme

Once you've made contact with the service, your stop smoking programme will consist of:

  • an initial 30 minute appointment
  • eight weekly support sessions lasting 10 minutes
  • up to 12 weeks free supply of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) for clients who attend the support sessions

You'll have to visit your GP if you want to use other stop smoking treatments such as Champix and Zyban and there's a prescription cost for these treatments.

You can still use Help2Quit for support as this can increase your chances of quitting successfully.

If you've used the Help2Quit service before, but you've started smoking again, you can use the service again. You can use the same pharmacy service as before or choose a different one if more convenient.

What happens at your first appointment

When you attend your chosen pharmacy, you'll meet a trained Stop Smoking Adviser who will:

  • assess your level of addiction by asking some questions about your smoking history
  • test your exposure to Carbon Monoxide using a simple breath test (Carbon Monoxide is one of the harmful chemicals found in cigarette smoke)
  • advise you on the best methods to help you quit
  • offer support in setting a date to quit smoking
  • give advice on different stop smoking medicines
  • supply nicotine replacement therapy free of charge

Help2Quit specialist service

This service is offered by Stop Smoking Nurse Specialists to:

  • hospital in-patients
  • pregnant women
  • people with long-term medical conditions (chronic disease)
  • people with mental health conditions (currently receiving support from mental health services)
  • young people under 16 years old
  • people with mobility problems who cannot access the pharmacy
  • people in prison

To check if the specialist service is suitable for you, call the Help2Quit freephone number on 0800 735 1155 and leave your name and contact details. If you prefer you can also email Help2Quit.
