Record of scaffold inspections

The Management in Construction (Jersey) Regulations 2016 require every scaffold from which a person could fall 2 metres or more must be thoroughly examined by a competent person before it is brought into use, and after any substantial alteration or extension. This thorough examination will usually be carried out by the scaffolding contractor who erected the scaffold.

Every scaffold from which a person could fall 2 metres or more must be inspected by a competent person at least once in every 7 days. A competent person must also inspect any scaffold before it is used if it has been exposed to weather conditions, or some other factor, which may have affected its safety. These prescribed intervals are summarised in the inspection record table, below.

A written record of the thorough examination and the regular inspections must be completed by the relevant competent person. These records must include the information specified in the regulations, an example of a suggested format for such a record is provided as the inspection record form.
