2027 European Year of the Normans

What is the 2027 European Year of the Normans

The 2027 European Year of the Normans is a cultural programme initiated by the Région Normandie to celebrate the 1,000 year anniversary of William the Conqueror’s birth.

This year long event will celebrate the lasting influence of the Normans, not only in Normandy but across the:

  • UK
  • Ireland
  • the Channel Islands
  • southern Italy
  • Norway
  • Denmark

Jersey and the 2027 European Year of the Normans

Having been part of the Duchy of Normandy, Jersey embodies the continuity of Norman law, customs and identity.

Our initiatives and activities will be announced soon, but organisations, artists, schools and community groups can get involved immediately.

They can apply for their new or existing projects to:

  • receive Région Normandie funding
  • be granted Région Normandie labelling as an official Year of the Normans event or project

Région Normandie funding

To get financial support from the Normandy Regional Council, organisations outside Normandy must collaborate on a European orientation project with an eligible organisation based in Normandy and match the criteria

If you don't have a Normand partner at the time of application, you can still submit your application for labelling only.

The next round of applications closes on 20 January 2026.

Criteria for funding by the Région Normandie

If you want to connect with a Normandy organisation to identify a Norman partner for your project, email Millennium officer Candice Rousseau at candice.rousseau@normandie.fr.

Région Normandie labelling

Events or projects which are approved and officially labelled will be able to carry the 2027 Year of the Normans branding and will be promoted by the Région Normandie and elsewhere.

You can find more details on how to apply for the labelling on 2027 European Year of the Normans website.

Jersey's contribution

Jersey will host and contribute to a range of interdisciplinary events aligned with the core themes of the 2027 programme, including:

  • Heritage exhibitions and public history projects
  • Artistic commissions and residencies
  • Educational and youth-focused initiatives
  • Cross-island collaborations with mainland Normandy
  • Cultural exchanges and community engagement

All events will explore both the historic significance and contemporary relevance of the Norman world, inviting reflection on:

  • identity
  • migration
  • cultural fusion
  • innovation over the past millennium
