New contract for States IT network

02 November 2011

The States has negotiated a new contract with JT (Jersey Telecom) to manage the complex IT network that connects the 40 main States sites. This agreement will save £100,000 per year once the new service is in place from 2012.

The new network will streamline services and provide the flexibility to add and remove States buildings to and from the network as required.

The Chief Executive at JT, Graeme Millar, commented “We are proud of the teams on both sides who have worked seamlessly to help bring this new data management service together.”

The Director of Information Services for the States, Neil Wells, said “This initiative not only supports the ongoing savings programme, but is a key part of the Information Services (IS) infrastructure modernisation programme, which will enable further savings and improved services in future.

“It will create significant benefits in the way we can deliver IS services, as well as saving £100,000 per year of public money. These savings, together with the deployment of a 24/7 monitoring service, will be introduced from 1 January 2012.”

The Assistant Minister for Treasury and Resources, Connétable John Refault, said “This is one of the many initiatives currently being developed across the States, which together will provide greater efficiency at a lower cost.

“The more we can save by buying smarter, the less impact there will be on front line services as our savings programme continues into 2012."
