Parish in Bloom

07 July 2011

The Jersey Parish in Bloom competition starts on Monday 11 July and whoever wins will represent the Island in the national finals.

The 7 Parishes that have entered the competition are: St Clement, Grouville, St Helier, St Lawrence, St Martin, St Ouen and St Saviour.

The judging will take place over 4 days from 11 – 14 July, by an independent panel made up of Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Britain in Bloom Judges, Rae Beckwith and Terry Whitmill. The panel will follow strict judging criteria which includes floral design, permanent landscaping, community involvement and local environmental quality.

2010 Winners

In 2010, the winner of ‘Best Parish’ was the Parish of St Saviour, and the winner of ‘Best Coastal Parish’ was the Parish of Grouville. Both will represent Jersey in the national finals of Britain in Bloom and will be judged in August by external judges.  Results of that competition will be announced at St Andrews in Scotland on 25 September.

RHS Britain in Bloom is one of Europe’s largest horticultural campaigns. More than 1100 cities, towns and villages participate each year to show off their achievements in environmental responsibility, community participation and horticultural achievement.

The results of the Jersey Parish in Bloom competition will be announced at an awards ceremony at St Lawrence Parish Hall on Thursday 14 July.
