Senator Bailhache to meet French Ambassador

23 February 2012

Assistant Chief Minister, Senator Sir Philip Bailhache, will meet France’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Bernard Emié, in London on 27 February 2012.

The meeting, which will take place at the French Embassy in Knightsbridge, is the latest in a recent series of engagements with French politicians and officials to have taken place this year. These have included a visit from the Préfet de la Manche and the Président du Conseil Général de la Manche, and a visit from the President of the Sénat’s Finance Commission, Sénateur Philippe Marini. Senator Bailhache also met Philippe Étienne, France’s Permanent Representative to the EU, during his trip to Brussels earlier this month.

Senator Bailhache commented: “I look forward to meeting the French Ambassador and to discussing with him Jersey’s continuing programme of engagement with the French Government and, more broadly, with the EU. We have recently enjoyed some positive meetings with French politicians and officials in Jersey, Paris and Brussels, and I hope to be able to develop some of the same themes in my discussions in London. It is important that the Island is able to establish direct relations with the diplomatic and political representatives of our EU neighbours.”
