Planning boost for tourism

16 November 2012

Plans to increase the number of rooms at a 5 star hotel in Jersey have been approved by the Planning Applications Panel.

At its meeting yesterday (15 November 2012), the panel agreed that Longueville Manor can construct a 2-storey building containing 10 guest suites and extra parking for guests.

In considering Longueville Manor’s amended plans, the panel had to weigh up a number of competing issues, according to Director of Planning, Peter Le Gresley. "The panel was mindful of the historic importance of the manor building," he said, "and the fact that the planned development is in the green zone, but it also took account of the need for high-quality investment in the tourism industry. This development represents a significant boost for the industry and will enable the hotel to plan for the future."

The panel also agreed a number of applications that will result in work for the building industry and support light industry. It agreed that Les Charrieres Hotel in St Peter can be demolished to make way for 9 new homes. Rose Farm Campsite in St Brelade will also now be knocked down to make way for 5 new homes.

New commercial buildings have been given the go-ahead on La Rue de la Retraite, in St Saviour, and the panel approved the construction of 2 new sheds for industrial use on the vacant section of an existing industrial site in Trinity.
