The search for the missing fisherman, swept off the rocks at Sorel Point on Thursday afternoon, 16 August 2012, has been called off.

Jersey Coastguard co-ordinated a full air and sea search rescue after receiving a call at approximately 4:50pm on Thursday afternoon, reporting that an angler had been swept off the rocks at Sorel Point.

The search involved Channel Islands Air Search, St Helier All Weather Lifeboat, St Catherine’s Inshore Lifeboat and the Fire Service Inshore Rescue boat.

The search was suspended at 9:15pm on Thursday evening and resumed again shortly before 7am this morning (Friday 17 August 2012).

The air and sea search was called off at 10am this morning. Jersey Coastguard will continue to broadcast to any vessels in the area of Sorel Point to keep a sharp lookout.
