Fire service volunteers in specialist training

03 August 2012

The group, which is made up of 12 volunteers, has undergone specialist training to support the service at major incidents and enhance the Safer Communities department. The volunteers are training until the end of December.

Chief Fire Officer Mark James said, "This is the first time that the service has formed such a group and it has given Islanders a closer link to the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service. I have been very impressed by the enthusiasm of the new volunteers who have fully embraced their new role. The volunteers will help us make Jersey a safer community and provide vital support to our fire fighters during large incidents.”

The volunteer group attend the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service headquarters on Thursday nights and are trained by the duty personnel. The training given varies from home fire safety checks to supporting crews at major Incidents. The volunteers are issued with identity cards and when they are supporting the service, will wear the volunteer uniform.

Volunteers will also be supporting the service at this year's Battle of Flowers Parade.
