States Chief Executive appointed

15 August 2012

John Richardson has been appointed Chief Executive for 3 and a half years. Mr Richardson has been Acting Chief Executive for a year, before which he spent 2 years as the States’ Deputy Chief Executive and 7 years as Chief Officer for Transport and Technical Services.

The Deputy Chief Minister, Senator Ian Le Marquand, said “John has been leading the public sector for more than a year now and is making good progress in challenging times. The States needs continuity and strong leadership and we are confident John will provide both.

“The length of the contract has been agreed to allow time for the Electoral Commission to make recommendations on the structure of the Assembly, and for any changes to be made. There will then be time for the new Council of Ministers to decide how the future role of Chief Executive should change in response to a new political structure.

Delivering Strategic Plan

“The Chief Minister and I are both pleased that John has accepted the substantive post of Chief Executive and we look forward to working with him on delivering the priorities highlighted in the States Strategic Plan.”

John Richardson says he is very pleased to be appointed to the role “I am especially looking forward to leading the public sector at this difficult and challenging time. I will be working with all States staff to deliver the key priorities that the government has decided to focus on during its term of office, while also planning for the major issues that will need to be tackled in the years to come.

“I will be focusing closely on the reform of the public sector, so we can ensure the States of Jersey is efficient, effective and fit for the future.”
