Minister speaks at report launch

02 July 2013

Treasury and Resources Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf, addressed an audience of senior finance industry professionals and trade bodies in London today at the launch of a new report by independent consultants Capital Economics. The report, commissioned by Jersey Finance, provides the most comprehensive analysis to date of the relationship between Jersey’s economy and that of the UK. Full and summary versions of the report are available on Jersey Finance's website.

Commenting on the report, Senator Ozouf said: “Our relationship with the UK dates back more than 800 years. Since the financial crisis, the debate has understandably been on tax. This report now allows us to move that debate on to the positive benefits of Jersey to the UK, which we are determined to grow.

"The reason that Capital Economics’ conclusions are so compelling is that they are the result of rigorous and impartial research. This report gives the most comprehensive picture yet of the interdependent and mutually beneficial relationship between Jersey and the UK. It shows how the Island’s economy, driven by a robust and transparent financial services industry, supports jobs and investment in the UK.”

Footage of Senator Ozouf delivering the speech will be uploaded to the States of Jersey’s YouTube channel.
