Free parking after 3pm

29 July 2013

Parking will be free at Sand Street car park after 3pm on Thursdays throughout August and September.

The ‘Free from 3’ initiative is being held on late night shopping evenings as many shops in town are open until 7pm on Thursdays. The Minister for Transport and Technical Services has introduced the initiative to support smaller businesses and to help keep town vibrant. It is hoped that it will lead to more people choosing to come to town to do their shopping.

The Minister for TTS said “Late night shopping is common in towns in the UK, and there is no reason why it should not become popular over here. Allowing free parking in Sand Street car park after 3 pm just gives people more options – up to 4 hours of shopping without paying for parking.”
