Gloucester Street congestion warning

16 July 2013

Motorists are being warned by Transport and Technical Services that there could be severe traffic congestion in and around Gloucester Street over the next four days.

The contractor is laying the final road surface between Newgate Street and the Esplanade. This means only one lane of Gloucester Street is open between 9am and 4.30pm.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area if at all possible.

Motorists should also note that the planned working hours have been extended hours to 4.30 pm. This has been allowed as this phase of work will be particularly difficult and the very hot weather means the asphalt will take longer to cool.

Asphalt is laid at more than 110°C but can only be driven on once it has cooled to ambient temperature.

Transport and Technical Services apologises to any motorists who are delayed due to this essential maintenance.
