Senator Bailhache to attend Lib Dem conference

12 September 2013

The Assistant Chief Minister, Senator Sir Philip Bailhache, will represent Jersey at the Liberal Democrat Party conference in Glasgow between 15 and 17 September 2013. He will be accompanied by the Treasury Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf.

The conference will be attended by delegates from within the Liberal Democrats as well as those representing charities, the private sector, political organisations and other jurisdictions, including Guernsey. This will be the third consecutive year that Jersey has attended UK party conferences, signifying the Island’s continued commitment to enhancing political engagement with the UK.

Senator Bailhache commented “In the light of our forthcoming attendance at the UK party conferences, it was very timely to hear Prime Minister Cameron’s recent comments endorsing the positive action taken by Jersey and the other Crown Dependencies and emphasising the extent to which we matter to the British people.

“Together with the Chief Minister of Guernsey, I shall be discussing these issues with prominent UK politicians at the Liberal Democrats conference. It is important that we attend these kinds of major political events in the UK, precisely so that we can promote Jersey’s value to the UK economy as widely as possible. It is also important that we give a clear understanding of the culture and heritage of our Island to those who have not yet had the opportunity to visit us.”

Towards the end of the month, the Treasury Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf, will attend the Labour Party conference between 23 and 25 September 2013 in Brighton. Following that, the Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst will lead a delegation to the Conservative Party conference between 30 September and 2 October 2013 in Manchester.
